Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are expected to open on a positive note on January 23, tracking supportive cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading higher around the 25,386.50 mark.

After three straight sessions of decline, domestic equity markets staged a strong rebound on January 22, buoyed by positive global sentiment following US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw tariff threats against European partners.

On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 82307.37 up by 397.74 points or by 0.49 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25289.9 up by 132.4 points or by 0.53 %.

On the global front, Asia traded with gains on Friday amid signs of easing trade tensions between the US and Europe. South Korea's Kospi was up 0.56 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng was higher by 0.82 per cent, last checked.

Overnight, Wall Street closed in the green after data showed the economy expanded in the December quarter by slightly more than expected. The S&P 500 index was up 0.55 per cent, and the Nasdaq index ended higher by 0.91 per cent.

The FIIs on 22/01/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 16140.04 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 633.79 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 17128.74 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1109.03 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -988.70 Crore and Rs. -475.24
