MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmark indices, the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a cautious note on June 9, tracking weak global cues. Early indications from the GIFT Nifty suggest a subdued start for domestic equities, with the index trading around 23,110.50 during early morning trade.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 73524.26 down by -719.08 points or by -0.97 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23123 down by -243.7 points or by -1.04 %.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading on a mixed note in the early trade on Tuesday. The Nikkei 225 was up 1.05 per cent, while the S&P ASX 200 fell 0.63 per cent. Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite settled 0.30 per cent and 0.86 per cent higher, respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.16 per cent down.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 518.42 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 109230.20 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 119052 with a total turnover of Rs. 18441.12 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 888007 with a total turnover of Rs. 57577.11 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 138982459 with a total turnover of Rs. 21109065.52 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 4459902 with a total turnover of Rs. 302137.10 Crore.

The FIIs on 08/06/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 11766.64 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 2406.94 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 20085.62 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 428.92 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -8318.98 Crore and Rs. 1978.02
