Indian benchmark indices the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 are expected to open on a subdued note on May 27, amid cautious global cues and weak indications from the GIFT Nifty, which was trading marginally lower near 23,916.50 in early trade.

The domestic market ended lower in the previous session after witnessing sharp intraday volatility, weighed down by escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and pressure ahead of the monthly F&O expiry.

On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76009.7 down by -479.26 points or by -0.63 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23913.7 down by -118 points or by -0.49 %.

On the global front, In the Asia-Pacific region, Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi hit record highs, tracking similar overnight moves on Wall Street due to AI optimism. The indices were up 1.02 per cent and 4.13 per cent, respectively.

Overnight, the US stock indices hit record highs, with technology stocks providing support. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite ended 0.61 per cent and 1.19 per cent. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average settled 0.23 per cent down.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 524.81 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 127513.37 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 214688 with a total turnover of Rs. 34313.85 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 3038618 with a total turnover of Rs. 199920.78 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 411445320 with a total turnover of Rs. 65167491.23 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 6645350 with a total turnover of Rs. 455263.68 Crore.

The FIIs on 26/05/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 12928.24 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 2.99 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 10733.56 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 196.60 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 2194.68 Crore and Rs. -193.61
