MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmarks are expected to start the day on a negative note today. Investors will look at global cues, stock-specific developments, and oil price movement for market direction today.

Overseas, Asian stocks treaded cautiously in early trade, with mainland China, Hong Kong and South Korean markets closed for Lunar New Year holidays. Japan’s Nikkei 225 extended losses in early trade as softer GDP data continued to weigh on risk appetite.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 83277.15 up by 650.39 points or by 0.79 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25682.75 up by 211.65 points or by 0.83 %.

On the global front, US markets were closed on Monday on the occasion of Presidents’ Day.

Meanwhile, Oil prices were marginally lower before a second round of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran. Gold and silver futures declined 0.73 per cent and 0.86 per cent, respectively in holiday-thin trade on Tuesday as a firm US dollar weighed.

Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Kwality Wall's (India) Ltd. 49715872.00, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. 22196951.00, Wipro Ltd. 20754327.00, Eternal Ltd. 19958107.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 18806989.00.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 1075922 with a total turnover of Rs. 72184.97 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures was 4763228 with a total turnover of Rs. 371401.58 Crore.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 392.16 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 89436.36 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 118697 with a total turnover of Rs. 20309.94 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures was 1219236 with a total turnover of Rs. 82461.92 Crore.

Total numbers of contracts for index options were 158865726 with a total turnover of Rs. 26515027.32 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 9083288 with a total turnover of Rs. 644079.87 Crore.

The FIIs on 16/02/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 16395.08 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1220.58 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 22487.69 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 427.29 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -6092.61 Crore and Rs. 793.29.
