MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian equity benchmark indices, the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to witness a subdued start on May 7 amid muted global cues. Early trends from GIFT Nifty, trading nearly flat around the 24,481 level, indicate a range-bound opening for domestic markets.

On May 6, Indian equities ended a volatile session with strong gains, as the Nifty closed above the 24,300 mark.

Market sentiment was boosted by optimism surrounding a possible US-Iran agreement that could help ease geopolitical tensions.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77958.52 up by 940.73 points or by 1.22 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24330.95 up by 298.15 points or by 1.24 %.

On the global front, In the Asia-Pacific region, Japan’s Nikkei 225 crossed the 62,000 mark for the first time as trading resumed after a long holiday. The index was trading 5.35 per cent higher. The Hang Seng was trading 1.34 per cent higher, while the CSI 300 was 0.01 per cent down. Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.24 per cent and 1.46 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 2.02 per cent higher.

Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. 36195481.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 35530831.00, HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. 34338299.00, Eternal Ltd. 33005769.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 24082651.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 585.25 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 151681.61 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 173147 with a total turnover of Rs. 27957.59 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1545548 with a total turnover of Rs. 102326.02 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 63645349 with a total turnover of Rs. 10066447.00 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 7963258 with a total turnover of Rs. 538154.42 Crore.

The FIIs on 06/05/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 10458.67 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 17.64 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 13878.15 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 503.36 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -3419.48 Crore and Rs. -485.72
