MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian equity markets are expected to begin Monday’s trade on a weak note as investors react to negative global market sentiment, rising crude oil prices, and ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. Early indications from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 150 points lower near the 23,558 mark, suggest a subdued opening for both Sensex and Nifty.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 75237.99 down by -160.73 points or by -0.21 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23643.5 down by -46.1 points or by -0.19 %.

On the global front, Asian markets declined amid concerns over the war in West Asia following Trump’s fresh warnings. The Nikkei 225 and the Hang Seng were trading 1.06 per cent and 1.09 per cent down, respectively. Last Friday, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were trading 1.24 per cent and 1.07 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 1.54 per cent down. Brent crude's May future contract was trading 1.78 per cent higher at $111.13 per barrel on the Intercontinental Exchange.

Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. 51689818.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 33231023.00, State Bank of India 26972493.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 24347873.00, Reliance Industries Ltd. 19976192.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 614.64 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 133227.25 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 131640 with a total turnover of Rs. 20643.22 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1287740 with a total turnover of Rs. 84148.82 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 100401681 with a total turnover of Rs. 15562653.04 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 8746637 with a total turnover of Rs. 596543.01 Crore.

The FIIs on 15/05/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 17136.59 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 286.07 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 16025.06 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 454.24 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1111.53 Crore and Rs. -168.17
