Sensex surges over 838 points, Nifty tops 22,900

Domestic bourses continued to gain strength during the noon trading session supported by banking and FMCG stocks.



At 14:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 74084.24 up by 838.21 points or by 1.14 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22907.25 up by 208.4 points or by 0.92 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 74129.41 and intraday low of 73181.9 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22909.1 and intraday low of 22656.75



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1866.00,+6.08%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 459.30,+4.39%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 261.35,+4.08%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 338.25,+3.60%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 310.90,+2.91%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Trent Ltd. (Rs. 2860.90,-1.62%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2255.00,-1.31%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 11445.55,-0.90%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1767.60,-0.36%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1395.90,-0.29%), among others.



FMCG index was at 16539.07 up by 332.29 points or by 2.05%. DCM Shriram Industries Ltd. (Rs. 64.31,+16.42%), Uttam Sugar Mills Ltd. (Rs. 352.70,+11.33%), Dwarikesh Sugar Industries Ltd. (Rs. 44.54,+9.57%), GRM Overseas Ltd. (Rs. 92.40,+5.35%), Avadh Sugar & Energy Ltd. (Rs. 868.10,+5.23%),.



Auto index was at 56448.11 down by -145.11 points or by -0.26%. Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 5120.90,-3.38%), Schaeffler India Ltd. (Rs. 3521.00,-3.12%), Exide Industries Ltd. (Rs. 343.20,-3.06%), Bosch Ltd. (Rs. 47075.00,-1.89%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 10349.10,-1.25%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4703 , shares advanced were 2655 while 1821 shares declined and 227 were unchanged.
