Sensex plunges 847 points; IT stocks, rising crude oil prices weigh

Stock market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty continued to extend losses on Wednesday, dragged by IT companies, rising crude oil prices and caution ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy decision.



At 10:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 72751.06 down by -847.61 points or by -1.15 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22512.15 down by -237.6 points or by -1.04 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 73316.46 and intraday low of 72603.57 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22691.5 and intraday low of 22497.7



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3821.00,+4.11%), State Bank of India (Rs. 952.00,+0.73%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1208.25,+0.17%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 2833.15,+0.15%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1108.00,-4.64%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2421.35,-3.15%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1755.00,-2.88%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 252.85,-2.75%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1774.75,-2.49%), among others.



HCS index was at 49148.59 up by 238.76 points or by 0.49%. Piramal Pharma Ltd. (Rs. 224.55,+13.15%), Aarti Drugs Ltd. (Rs. 445.75,+10.50%), One Global Service Provider Ltd. (Rs. 473.00,+6.52%), FDC Ltd. (Rs. 374.00,+5.66%), Hester Biosciences Ltd. (Rs. 2258.30,+5.37%),.



IT index was at 29531.84 down by -913.25 points or by -3%. Onward Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 385.70,-4.99%), Empower India Ltd. (Rs. 1.23,-4.65%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1108.00,-4.64%), Mastek Ltd. (Rs. 1479.75,-3.74%), Capillary Technologies India Ltd. (Rs. 557.95,-3.67%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4087 , shares advanced were 1615 while 2241 shares declined and 231 were unchanged.
