Sensex plunges 710 points, Nifty below 22,600

Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, opened lower on Wednesday and extended their losses in early trade.



At 9:35 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 72888.56 down by -710.11 points or by -0.96 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22552.45 down by -197.3 points or by -0.87 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 73316.46 and intraday low of 72772.48 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22691.5 and intraday low of 22551.9



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3822.45,+4.15%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 11545.00,+0.79%), State Bank of India (Rs. 950.95,+0.62%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 2838.35,+0.33%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1110.70,-4.41%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1749.55,-3.18%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2421.35,-3.15%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1376.45,-2.79%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 253.50,-2.50%), among others.



Auto index was at 56263.85 up by 421.33 points or by 0.75%. Exide Industries Ltd. (Rs. 354.00,+4.52%), Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (Rs. 1925.10,+3.83%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 10650.15,+2.63%), UNO Minda Ltd. (Rs. 1109.50,+2.31%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 407.35,+2.08%),.



IT index was at 29529.93 down by -915.16 points or by -3.01%. Onward Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 385.70,-4.99%), Empower India Ltd. (Rs. 1.23,-4.65%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1110.70,-4.41%), Genesys International Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 189.30,-3.76%), Mphasis Ltd. (Rs. 2494.05,-3.35%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3492 , shares advanced were 1457 while 1895 shares declined and 140 were unchanged.
