Sensex jumps 300 points, Nifty nears 22,700

Indian benchmark indices extended their gains on Monday, October 26, supported by positive market sentiment.



Among sectoral indices, metals led the rally, followed by pharma and oil and gas stocks. Meanwhile, FMCG and PSU bank stocks remained under pressure.



At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 73429.35 up by 305.52 points or by 0.42 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22679.5 up by 79.5 points or by 0.35 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 73498.69 and intraday low of 72514.57 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22718.6 and intraday low of 22387.35



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 325.90,+2.81%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 440.35,+2.38%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1738.05,+2.06%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 2766.75,+1.87%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 363.75,+1.01%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 918.70,-0.90%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1804.65,-0.84%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 687.35,-0.69%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1414.45,-0.67%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1733.95,-0.52%), among others.



Metal index was at 37429.58 up by 706.41 points or by 1.92%. JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1238.00,+4.30%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 890.80,+3.52%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 309.80,+2.75%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1033.90,+2.16%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 168.15,+1.91%),.



CDS index was at 54667.47 down by -155.39 points or by -0.28%. Havells India Ltd. (Rs. 1010.70,-2.06%), Amber Enterprises India Ltd. (Rs. 5908.40,-1.66%), Voltas Ltd. (Rs. 937.00,-1.37%), Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd. (Rs. 505.20,-1.37%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 193.30,-1.10%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4815 , shares advanced were 2437 while 2137 shares declined and 241 were unchanged.
