Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty signals positive start; US, Asian markets fall

Indian benchmark indices are expected to open higher on October 13, tracking positive cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading at around 22,415.50 in early deals.



The domestic equity market witnessed renewed selling pressure in the previous session on October 12, with the Nifty slipping towards the 22,300 mark amid losses across IT, FMCG and financial stocks, erasing some gains from the previous rebound.



On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 71924.68 down by -547.65 points or by -0.76 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22363.35 down by -157.1 points or by -0.7 %.



On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were trading sharply lower as technology shares declined. South Korea’s Kospi dropped more than 6 per cent to lead the losses in the region. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 2.7 per cent and 0.82 per cent, respectively.



Overnight, the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 settled 0.44 per cent and 0.06 per cent lower, respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.38 per cent higher.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 69838 with a total turnover of Rs. 10624.46 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 784692 with a total turnover of Rs. 50129.36 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 181714772 with a total turnover of Rs. 26613240.17 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5451144 with a total turnover of Rs. 356969.49 Crore.



The FIIs on 12/10/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 10906.98 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 148.52 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 14158.02 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 546.23 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -3251.04 Crore and Rs. -397.71
