Sensex slumps 764 points, Nifty below 22,400

Indian benchmark indices continued to trade lower on Monday as IT, FMCG, and bank shares weighed.



At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 71707.51 down by -764.82 points or by -1.06 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22337.55 down by -182.9 points or by -0.81 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 72884.25 and intraday low of 71702.49 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22651.1 and intraday low of 22335.35



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 373.50,+1.36%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2810.60,+0.66%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1220.50,+0.51%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 441.95,+0.42%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1760.20,+0.19%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1452.90,-4.23%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 257.30,-3.34%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3616.15,-2.24%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1823.00,-2.04%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1770.40,-2.00%), among others.



CGS index was at 74160.07 up by 868.37 points or by 1.18%. Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 39.50,+5.11%), PTC Industries Ltd. (Rs. 25745.00,+4.88%), Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (Rs. 4760.00,+2.12%), HBL Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 732.50,+1.95%), Polycab India Ltd. (Rs. 8387.50,+1.67%),.



TECk index was at 14353 down by -193.4 points or by -1.33%. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1452.95,-4.23%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1769.65,-2.05%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2127.55,-1.64%), Indus Towers Ltd. (Rs. 372.70,-1.60%), Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 1838.95,-1.56%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4869 , shares advanced were 2313 while 2253 shares declined and 303 were unchanged.
