Indian benchmark indices are likely to open on a flat to negative note on August 14, tracking weakness in GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,438.50 in early trade.
The domestic market may remain cautious after a volatile session on August 13, when buying at lower levels helped the benchmark indices recover from the day’s lows and close largely flat, with the Nifty ending near the 24,400 mark.
Selling in banking, metal and pharma stocks was largely offset by gains in FMCG, IT and realty stocks.
On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 78079.96 up by 113.61 points or by 0.15 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24395.85 down by -40.1 points or by -0.16 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets reversed their early rally to trade on a mixed note. The markets in the region opened higher as a softer US Producer Price Index (PPI) reading raised hopes for no rate hike in the near term and as technology shares gained.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kosi were trading 0.7 per cent and 0.9 per cent higher, respectively. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.51 per cent.
Overnight, the S&P 500 hit a new high and settled 0.65 per cent higher at 7,799.19. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite ended 0.13 per cent and 0.81 per cent higher, respectively.
