Sensex jumps 543 points; ITC surges 3% post Q1 result

Indian benchmark indices opened on a positive note on August 3, with the Nifty climbing above the 24,500 mark, supported by upbeat global cues.



On the sectoral front, InterGlobe Aviation, Bajaj Finance, ITC, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), and Bajaj Finserv emerged as the top gainers on the Nifty. Meanwhile, Sun Pharma, Maruti Suzuki, Bharti Airtel, ONGC, and Apollo Hospitals were among the top laggards in early trade.



At 9:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 78637.97 up by 543.33 points or by 0.7 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24572.7 up by 189.1 points or by 0.78 %.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 291.70,+3.83%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 1171.50,+2.61%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2081.50,+2.57%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 5299.60,+2.49%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2394.00,+1.20%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1943.35,-2.31%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 13962.50,-1.94%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1965.90,-0.27%), among others.



_FMCG index was at 18614.78 up by 298.05 points or by 1.63%. Continental Construction Ltd. (Rs. 122.95,+9.83%), KRBL Ltd. (Rs. 371.00,+5.55%), Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd. (Rs. 233.40,+4.99%), Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd. (Rs. 611.80,+4.30%), Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd. (Rs. 140.65,+4.11%),.



_HCS index was at 50867.9 down by 70.88 points or by 0.14%. Narayana Hrudayalaya Ltd. (Rs. 1950.65,-3.79%), Jupiter Life Line Hospitals Ltd. (Rs. 318.40,-3.54%), Aarti Drugs Ltd. (Rs. 413.05,-2.47%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1945.10,-2.22%), SMS Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 366.90,-1.95%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3635 , shares advanced were 2683 while 717 shares declined and 235 were unchanged.
