Indian benchmark indices are poised for a strong start on August 3, tracking positive cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around the 24,565 mark in early trade.
In the previous session, the benchmark indices extended their gains for a third straight day, with the Nifty reclaiming the 24,400 level amid broad-based buying across most sectors. However, FMCG and IT stocks remained under pressure, limiting broader market gains.
On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 78094.64 up by 166.49 points or by 0.21 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24383.6 up by 66.45 points or by 0.27 %.
On the global front, in the Asia-Pacific region, most markets were trading lower, with South Korea’s Kospi leading the losses. The index was down over 4 per cent. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was trading 1.84 per cent lower, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 3.9 per cent.
Last Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 rose 0.53 per cent and 0.7 per cent, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 1 per cent higher.

Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 18811.05 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 206.87 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 14023.27 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 576.19 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 4787.78 Crore and Rs. -369.32
