Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty signals subdued start; Asia trades mixed

Indian benchmark indices are expected to open on a mildly negative note on July 30, mirroring weak global cues. GIFT Nifty was trading around 24,276 in early trade, indicating a subdued start for the domestic markets.

In the previous session, Indian equity benchmarks witnessed a strong recovery, with the Sensex and Nifty 50 advancing nearly 1%. The rally was driven by broad-based buying across most sectors, except realty, supported by encouraging June-quarter earnings and optimism ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy decision, which is due later today.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77654.6 up by 888.68 points or by 1.16 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24250.2 up by 264.85 points or by 1.1 %.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading on a mixed note as traders digested earnings reports from big technology firms. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were trading down 2.3 per cent and 5.19 per cent, respectively.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.31 per cent.

Overnight, the blue-chip index, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, fell 2.19 per cent, recording the worst decline since April, 2025. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite settled 1.5 per cent and 1.74 per cent down, respectively.
