Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty signals a strong start; Asian markets mixed

Indian benchmark indices are poised for a positive start on July 29, with GIFT Nifty trading higher around 24,249 in early trade, indicating a firm opening for the domestic market.



In the previous session, benchmark indices ended largely flat after recovering from an intraday decline. Gains in IT, auto, and realty stocks helped offset weakness in energy, FMCG, metal, and banking shares, resulting in a subdued close.



On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76765.92 down by -69.86 points or by -0.09 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23985.35 down by -10.6 points or by -0.04 %.



On the global front, Asian markets were trading on a mixed note on Wednesday morning as investors weighed the recent spike in energy prices following fresh escalation in West Asia. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.49 per cent and 2.08 per cent, respectively.



Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 1.45 per cent.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 rose 1.03 per cent and 0.21 per cent. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite ended 0.22 per cent down.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 414.15 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 124665.66 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 211532 with a total turnover of Rs. 34061.72 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 3317302 with a total turnover of Rs. 219109.81 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 366256160 with a total turnover of Rs. 58402931.50 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 8417111 with a total turnover of Rs. 574810.95 Crore.



The FIIs on 28/07/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 12468.99 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 999.34 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 13810.28 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 63.39 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1341.29 Crore and Rs. 935.95
