Sensex drops 266 pts, Nifty around 23,900

The Nifty50 and Sensex were trading lower as rising crude oil prices, driven by escalating tensions in West Asia, dampened investor sentiment.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76488.47 down by -266.58 points or by -0.35 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23921.55 down by -74.7 points or by -0.31 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 76566.93 and intraday low of 76344.67 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23952 and intraday low of 23876.2



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 286.50,+1.09%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 2901.45,+0.48%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3188.70,+0.44%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1240.00,+0.22%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1881.40,+0.21%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1803.45,-0.87%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 746.85,-0.84%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 184.95,-0.83%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1043.80,-0.81%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 13440.00,-0.79%), among others.



Metal index was at 40441.72 up by -33.97 points or by -0.08%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 348.40,+1.74%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 960.40,+1.09%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. (Rs. 1841.70,+1.08%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 538.35,+0.53%), Lloyds Metals & Energy Ltd. (Rs. 1878.60,+0.41%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3432 , shares advanced were 1350 while 1906 shares declined and 176 were unchanged.
