Sensex down 725 points, Nifty below 24,000

Indian equity benchmarks remained under pressure in afternoon trade on Friday, with the Sensex tumbling more than 750 points and the Nifty50 falling below the 24,000 level.



The weakness was primarily driven by a sharp selloff in information technology stocks, which weighed heavily on overall market sentiment. Concerns over the sector's growth outlook triggered broad-based selling in IT counters, dragging the benchmark indices lower.



At 14:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76684.96 down by -725.02 points or by -0.94 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23958.05 down by -209.95 points or by -0.87 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 76858.8 and intraday low of 76499.22 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24011.5 and intraday low of 23913.15



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1901.15,+1.41%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 261.45,+1.14%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 291.80,+1.11%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 365.15,+0.87%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 964.25,+0.54%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1041.50,-7.61%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2099.95,-4.73%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1391.90,-3.78%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1120.10,-3.58%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 779.25,-2.42%), among others.



CGS index was at 83254.32 up by 570.09 points or by 0.69%. Jyoti CNC Automation Ltd. (Rs. 742.50,+6.06%), Bharat Dynamics Ltd. (Rs. 1376.00,+4.91%), PTC Industries Ltd. (Rs. 18200.00,+4.36%), GE Vernova T&D India Ltd. (Rs. 5460.00,+4.07%), AIA Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 4706.05,+3.89%),.

_IT index was at 26586.99 down by -1234.87 points or by -4.44%. Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1041.50,-7.61%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2099.95,-4.73%), LTM Ltd. (Rs. 3810.00,-4.63%), Sonata Software Ltd. (Rs. 296.85,-4.52%), Magellanic Cloud Ltd. (Rs. 30.28,-4.21%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4586 , shares advanced were 2071 while 2283 shares declined and 232 were unchanged.
