Mid-Session: Sensex up 237 pts, Nifty near 23,300

Indian benchmark indices recovered sharply from early losses and climbed to their intraday highs, with the Nifty trading around the 23,300 mark. Gains were led by pharma, banking, media, and metal stocks, while IT shares remained under selling pressure.



At 12:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 74221.13 up by 237.95 points or by 0.32 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23297.65 up by 82.7 points or by 0.36 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 74380.22 and intraday low of 73518.75 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23324.25 and intraday low of 23072.05



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1330.90,+2.91%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 397.85,+2.54%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3001.00,+1.66%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1334.90,+1.54%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1791.10,+0.88%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1118.00,-2.36%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1108.30,-2.10%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 2709.75,-1.56%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 402.30,-1.51%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 236.10,-1.46%), among others.



Bankex index was at 62471.93 up by 412.96 points or by 0.67%. ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1330.90,+2.91%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 397.85,+2.54%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1334.90,+1.54%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 896.50,+1.44%), Au Small Finance Bank Ltd. (Rs. 969.20,+1.10%),.



IT index was at 27087.93 down by -464.42 points or by -1.69%. Network People Services Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1540.75,-6.35%), Magellanic Cloud Ltd. (Rs. 22.84,-6.12%), Sasken Technologies Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4358 , shares advanced were 1490 while 2628 shares declined and 240 were unchanged.
