Sensex, Nifty firm; HUL, Trent top gainers

Indian benchmark indices continued to trade higher on Wednesday, supported by buying in index heavyweights including Hindustan Unilever Ltd.Trent Ltd.ICICI Bank Ltd. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.and Larsen & Toubro Ltd. among others.



At 10:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 74376.03 up by 457.27 points or by 0.62 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23337.35 up by 95.25 points or by 0.41 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 74458.45 and intraday low of 73897.83 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23384.45 and intraday low of 23217.3



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2185.60,+2.47%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 2820.05,+1.73%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1296.00,+1.62%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 387.15,+1.41%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3947.35,+1.20%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1158.85,-1.83%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 243.45,-0.90%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 201.50,-0.79%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 10825.00,-0.78%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2980.80,-0.35%), among others.



FMCG index was at 18244.5 up by 259.01 points or by 1.44%. CCL Products India Ltd. (Rs. 1225.60,+6.73%), DOMS Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2199.85,+5.25%), Eveready Industries India Ltd. (Rs. 337.20,+5.01%), Mrs. Bectors Food Specialities Ltd. (Rs. 175.95,+3.35%), Gillette India Ltd. (Rs. 7907.75,+3.05%),.



Metal index was at 41869.93 down by -485.57 points or by -1.15%. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1040.55,-3.43%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 545.40,-3.25%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 375.45,-2.23%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1130.45,-1.73%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 183.75,-1.16%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4067 , shares advanced were 1931 while 1904 shares declined and 232 were unchanged.
