Mid-Session: Sensex jumps 478 points; banks lead, pharma drags

Indian equities extended gains during the noon trading session on Friday, with the Nifty reclaiming the 23,800 mark as strong buying in private banks and financial stocks outweighed weakness in pharma shares.



At 12:20 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 75661.8 up by 478.44 points or by 0.64 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23794.95 up by 140.25 points or by 0.59 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 75772.14 and intraday low of 75230.75 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23828.5 and intraday low of 23671



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1280.50,+2.15%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 4259.00,+2.13%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2653.60,+2.13%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1267.60,+1.99%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2218.00,+1.80%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 303.90,-1.33%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 295.95,-1.22%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1870.25,-1.11%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 416.10,-1.09%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1415.05,-0.36%), among others.



Bankex index was at 60872.95 up by 677.72 points or by 1.13%. Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1279.60,+2.07%), Au Small Finance Bank Ltd. (Rs. 978.80,+2.05%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1267.10,+1.95%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 768.90,+1.30%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 384.35,+0.95%),.



HCS index was at 47521.87 down by -335.19 points or by -0.7%. Dishman Carbogen Amcis Ltd. (Rs. 197.05,-7.44%), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (Rs. 1453.20,-6.03%), Suraksha Diagnostic Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4294 , shares advanced were 2365 while 1682 shares declined and 247 were unchanged.
