Indices edge higher; auto stocks rally

Market benchmarks are trading with healthy gains on Wednesday, backed by buying in blue-chip stocks and positive cues from Asian markets. In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 0.57 per cent and 0.68 per cent higher, respectively.



On the corporate front, share price of Ceat soared 12 per cent to ₹3,924 on the BSE in intra-day trade on the back of 10-fold jump in the average trading volumes. Shares of private sector lender Bandhan Bank rallied over 10 per cent to hit a 52-week high of ₹199.59 on the NSE.



At 11:26 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 77818.62 up by 931.71 points or by 1.21 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24288.15 up by 292.45 points or by 1.22 %.



During the trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 77879.68 and intraday low of 77136.2 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24298.95 and intraday low of 24059.95.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 13464.15,+4.44%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1457.90,+3.46%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 314.35,+3.25%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3167.00,+2.56%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1420.15,+2.25%), among others.



While the top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4398.40,-1.05%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2458.80,-0.16%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1776.75,-0.16%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1291.20,-0.04%), among others.



BSE Realty index was at 6238.32 up by 108.22 points or by 1.77%. Lodha Developers Ltd. (Rs. 908.40,+2.86%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 1802.95,+2.37%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1863.90,+2.10%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 600.15,+2.08%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 1428.75,+1.66%),.



BSE Power index was at 8271.98 down by 8.41 points or by 0.1%. JSW Energy Ltd. (Rs. 569.20,-2.00%), Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 1729.50,-1.24%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 456.50,-1.09%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 352.60,-0.68%), Adani Green Energy Ltd. (Rs. 1246.05,-0.25%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4257 , shares advanced were 2531 while 1511 shares declined and 215 were unchanged.
