Sensex, Nifty open in green; Bandhan Bank Zooms 10%

Indian equities opened in the positive territory on Wednesday, amid mixed global cues. Broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices. The Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 0.57 per cent and 0.68 per cent higher, respectively.



On the corporate front, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers shares jumped 15 per cent as the company reported that its net profit grew 24.1 per cent. HFCL stock has surged over 57 per cent thus far in April and seems on course to log its biggest monthly gain in over 5 years.



On the currency front, Indian rupee opened 20 paise lower at 94.74 per dollar on Wednesday against previous close of 94.54.



At 9:57 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 77460.2 up by 573.29 points or by 0.75 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24141.35 up by 145.65 points or by 0.61 %.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 13454.90,+4.37%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3170.50,+2.67%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1444.40,+2.50%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 312.00,+2.48%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 258.55,+1.87%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2438.30,-0.99%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 213.45,-0.74%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1286.80,-0.38%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1286.40,-0.23%), among others.



BSE Auto index was at 58247.68 up by 1274.86 points or by 2.24%. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 13454.90,+4.37%), Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (Rs. 361.50,+3.06%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3170.50,+2.67%), Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 7250.35,+2.54%), MRF Ltd. (Rs. 133300.00,+2.37%),.



Whereas, Metal index was at 42724.78 down by -197.94 points or by -0.46%. Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1242.55,-1.81%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 434.80,-1.51%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 183.60,-1.16%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1271.65,-0.79%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 213.45,-0.74%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3740 , shares advanced were 2259 while 1294 shares declined and 187 were unchanged.
