Pre-Session: Markets likely to open firm on de-escalation hopes

Indian equity benchmarks, BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a positive note, supported by firm cues from GIFT Nifty, which is trading near the 22,900 mark.



In the previous session (March 30), the indices extended losses for a second consecutive day, with the Nifty 50 slipping below 22,350 amid broad-based selling. Banking stocks led the decline after the RBI tightened norms on banks’ dollar positions.



On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 71947.55 down by -1635.67 points or by -2.22 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22331.4 down by -488.2 points or by -2.14 %.



On the global front, Asian markets were trading higher, with the Kospi leading the rally with over 5 per cent gain. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and China’s CSI 300 were trading 3.9 per cent and 1.3 per cent higher, respectively.

Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.5 per cent and 2.9 per cent, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 3.8 per cent higher.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 516976 with a total turnover of Rs. 76558.64 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 4124743 with a total turnover of Rs. 243627.85 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 438903281 with a total turnover of Rs. 64841336.65 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 6602074 with a total turnover of Rs. 421857.15 Crore.



The FIIs on 30/03/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 22117.36 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1096.23 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 26082.07 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 168.04 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -3964.71 Crore and Rs. 928.19
