Sensex down 738 points, Nifty above 22,600

The Nifty 50 and Sensex recovered partially from their early losses, supported by buying interest in metal and oil & gas stocks.



At 9:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 72844.37 down by -738.85 points or by -1 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22683.6 down by -136 points or by -0.6 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 73165.32 and intraday low of 72391.98 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22685.55 and intraday low of 22470.15



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 410.00,+1.30%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1360.80,+0.93%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 296.80,+0.47%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3990.00,+0.22%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 376.45,+0.15%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 353.40,-3.43%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1168.20,-3.07%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 826.40,-2.13%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1808.00,-1.85%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1004.45,-1.53%), among others.



Metal index was at 37431 up by 594.73 points or by 1.61%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 394.00,+6.21%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 909.55,+4.93%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 676.60,+4.16%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 151.55,+3.48%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 457.85,+2.85%),.



Bankex index was at 57543.63 down by -1273.3 points or by -2.16%. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 353.10,-3.51%), IDFC First Bank Ltd. (Rs. 59.81,-3.25%), Au Small Finance Bank Ltd. (Rs. 855.00,-3.18%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1170.00,-2.92%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 769.80,-2.78%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3992 , shares advanced were 1201 while 2599 shares declined and 192 were unchanged.
