Sensex plunges 580 pts, Nifty below 23,500 for first time since April 2025

The Indian benchmark indices opened on a negative note, mirroring weak global cues as investor sentiment remained cautious amid concerns of a prolonged US–Iran conflict.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 75452.51 down by -581.91 points or by -0.77 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23469.65 down by -169.5 points or by -0.72 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 75576.2 and intraday low of 75316.86 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23487.9 and intraday low of 23415.25



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2167.20,+1.49%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1811.45,+0.59%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 305.10,+0.46%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1832.15,+0.39%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 304.85,+0.31%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 188.10,-2.77%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3618.50,-2.75%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4164.35,-2.09%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 10878.00,-1.92%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 217.20,-1.83%), among others.



_FMCG index was at 17788.08 up by 79.33 points or by 0.45%. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2167.20,+1.49%), Bannari Amman Sugars Ltd. (Rs. 3600.00,+1.41%), Avadh Sugar & Energy Ltd. (Rs. 430.05,+1.27%), Varun Beverages Ltd. (Rs. 415.65,+1.21%), LT Foods Ltd. (Rs. 393.60,+1.14%),.



Metal index was at 38148.69 down by -1009.56 points or by -2.58%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 392.50,-4.09%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 934.55,-3.64%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 564.80,-3.11%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1191.25,-2.77%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 188.10,-2.77%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3484 , shares advanced were 1101 while 2236 shares declined and 147 were unchanged.
