Stock markets in red amid boiling crude oil prices, weak global trends

Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty were trading lower on Thursday as a sharp jump in crude oil prices due to the widening crisis in West Asia weighed heavily on investors' sentiment.



At 10:24 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76073.21 down by -790.5 points or by -1.03 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23677.85 down by -189 points or by -0.79 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 76369.65 and intraday low of 75871.18 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23696.75 and intraday low of 23556.3



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 383.20,+0.84%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 300.30,+0.50%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1394.00,+0.21%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1352.75,+0.20%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1808.60,+0.14%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3054.75,-3.54%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 216.20,-3.40%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 3510.55,-3.14%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 872.35,-2.33%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4044.15,-2.30%), among others.



Power index was at 6898.29 up by 13.77 points or by 0.2%. Adani Power Ltd. (Rs. 143.00,+2.99%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 394.00,+2.28%), JSW Energy Ltd. (Rs. 496.10,+1.72%), Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 1459.20,+1.41%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 383.20,+0.84%),.



Auto index was at 55826.04 down by -1548.13 points or by -2.7%. Apollo Tyres Ltd. (Rs. 414.90,-4.51%), TVS Motor Company Ltd. (Rs. 3463.80,-3.78%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3054.75,-3.54%), Bharat Forge Ltd. (Rs. 1734.45,-3.49%), Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 178.90,-3.22%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3942 , shares advanced were 1045 while 2699 shares declined and 198 were unchanged.
