Sensex up 290 pts, Nifty holds 25700

Indian stock markets opened higher today, led by information technology (IT) shares.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 83673.95 up by 291.24 points or by 0.35 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25708.75 up by 43.15 points or by 0.17 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 83726.15 and intraday low of 83510.34 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25743.25 and intraday low of 25678.4



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1676.40,+4.84%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1629.80,+2.60%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1691.30,+1.36%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3691.30,+1.15%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2019.60,+0.90%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 291.50,-2.57%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1677.80,-1.34%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1997.00,-1.29%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1410.60,-0.53%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2802.55,-0.45%), among others.



IT index was at 37545.26 up by 1011.33 points or by 2.77%. Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1675.85,+4.80%), MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 2893.95,+3.69%), Birlasoft Ltd. (Rs. 434.10,+3.65%), Netweb Technologies India Ltd. (Rs. 3302.20,+3.55%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 268.30,+3.13%),.



_HCS index was at 43070.26 down by -292.4 points or by -0.67%. Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 1382.70,-3.62%), Windlas Biotech Ltd. (Rs. 811.15,-2.59%), Jupiter Life Line Hospitals Ltd. (Rs. 1341.90,-1.96%), Concord Biotech Ltd. (Rs. 1325.50,-1.85%), Vijaya Diagnostic Centre Ltd. (Rs. 976.95,-1.76%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3683 , shares advanced were 1919 while 1523 shares declined and 241 were unchanged.
