Sensex drops 205 pts, Nifty tests 26,100

Indian equity benchmark indices opened largely flat on Friday with a slight negative bias, as the holiday-shortened week offered few fresh triggers for investors. The market was closed for the Christmas holiday on Thursday.



At 9:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 85203.37 down by -205.33 points or by -0.24 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26085.7 down by -56.4 points or by -0.22 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 85378.51 and intraday low of 85166.06 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26144.2 and intraday low of 26081.7



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 855.80,+0.89%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3939.10,+0.78%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 323.10,+0.15%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1663.40,+0.06%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1717.85,-1.13%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 1005.15,-0.96%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 168.45,-0.91%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 282.90,-0.67%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2767.35,-0.65%), among others.

PSU index was at 20307.32 up by 122.23 points or by 0.61%. Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (Rs. 377.25,+9.13%), MMTC Ltd. (Rs. 62.49,+8.66%), Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 129.30,+6.46%), Ircon International Ltd. (Rs. 177.90,+4.31%), Rites Ltd. (Rs. 252.15,+3.89%),.

TECk index was at 18889.12 down by -49.79 points or by -0.26%. Hughes Ispat Ltd. (Rs. 50.34,-1.24%), PVR INOX Ltd. (Rs. 1013.90,-1.16%), Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 1719.60,-1.03%), LTIMindtree Ltd. (Rs. 6110.40,-0.82%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3300.10,-0.61%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3652 , shares advanced were 1898 while 1565 shares declined and 189 were unchanged.
