Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are expected to open on a positive note today, December 24, tracking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 26,236.50 earlier, despite mild weakness.
In the previous session, domestic markets struggled to sustain early gains and remained range-bound for most of the day, snapping a two-day winning streak.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 85524.84 down by -42.64 points or by -0.05 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26177.15 up by 4.75 points or by 0.02 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were trading mixed on Wednesday, with several indexes set to close early in the lieu of the Christmas Eve holiday. Last checked, Japan's Nikkei 225 index was up 0.36 per cent, and South Korea's KOSPI index was up 0.42 per cent. Australia's S&P ASX 200 was down 0.58 per cent.
US equity markets settled higher for the fourth consecutive session on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 setting a fresh closing record, after delayed third-quarter GDP number came in better-than-expected. The US economy grew at a 4.3 per cent annual rate during the third quarter. Overnight, the S&P 500 index rose 0.46 per cent, the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.57 per cent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average 0.16 per cent.

Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 10900.96 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1011.01 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 10713.31 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 831.77 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 187.65 Crore and Rs. 179.24
