Post-Session: Sensex slips 42 pts after two-day rally; IT shares fall on profit-taking

Benchmark equity index BSE Sensex declined by 42 points in a volatile session on Tuesday, weighed down by profit-taking in IT and pharmaceutical stocks amid mixed global cues.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 85524.84 down by -42.64 points or by -0.05 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26177.15 up by 4.75 points or by 0.02 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 85704.93 and intraday low of 85342.99 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26233.55 and intraday low of 26119.05



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 407.65,+1.27%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11675.60,+1.24%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 170.90,+1.03%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 996.40,+0.91%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 323.20,+0.75%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1668.10,-1.28%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2122.40,-1.15%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1494.05,-0.95%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 848.70,-0.92%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1755.20,-0.91%), among others.



PSU index was at 20210.65 up by 113.26 points or by 0.56%. Ircon International Ltd. (Rs. 169.45,+8.00%), IFCI Ltd. (Rs. 52.98,+7.18%), KIOCL Ltd. (Rs. 361.50,+5.49%), Rites Ltd. (Rs. 242.10,+4.06%), NLC India Ltd. (Rs. 250.55,+3.94%),.

TECk index was at 18981.43 down by -151.6 points or by -0.79%. Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 1778.80,-4.78%), PVR INOX Ltd. (Rs. 1024.55,-2.07%), Persistent Systems Ltd. (Rs. 6478.30,-1.29%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1668.10,-1.28%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2122.40,-1.15%),



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4546 , shares advanced were 2423 while 1932 shares declined and 191 were unchanged.
