Mid-Session: Sensex down 234 pts; Nifty below 25,800

Indian benchmark indices turned volatile on Wednesday after a marginally positive opening, as banking stocks traded mixed. Meanwhile, the rupee rebounded to around 89.81 against the US dollar following RBI intervention.



At 12:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 84445.5 down by -234.36 points or by -0.28 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25795.3 down by -64.8 points or by -0.25 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 84889.45 and intraday low of 84415.98 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25929.15 and intraday low of 25783.75



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 974.00,+1.31%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1230.90,+0.92%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 262.35,+0.73%), Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (Rs. 347.60,+0.61%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1601.10,+0.55%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1349.80,-1.19%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 982.50,-1.17%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 835.50,-1.14%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2014.95,-1.00%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1484.70,-0.97%), among others.



IT index was at 36868.9 up by 85.55 points or by 0.23%. Birlasoft Ltd. (Rs. 436.05,+2.31%), Magellanic Cloud Ltd. (Rs. 27.01,+1.05%), RateGain Travel Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 667.05,+0.65%), R Systems International Ltd. (Rs. 420.10,+0.56%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1601.10,+0.55%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4250 , shares advanced were 1500 while 2528 shares declined and 222 were unchanged.
