Post-Session: Sensex plunges 466 points on selling in pvt banking shares

Benchmark Sensex declined by nearly 466 points on Friday in its second straight day of losses following selling in private banks and a weak trend in global markets.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 83938.71 down by -465.75 points or by -0.55 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25722.1 down by -155.75 points or by -0.6 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 84712.79 and intraday low of 83905.66 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25953.75 and intraday low of 25711.2



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4031.20,+1.09%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3057.80,+0.73%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 420.25,+0.37%), State Bank of India (Rs. 937.00,+0.31%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 317.75,-3.52%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 336.85,-2.39%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2104.00,-1.57%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1345.05,-1.28%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2088.20,-1.25%), among others.



_CGS index was at 70404.39 up by 284.89 points or by 0.41%. Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 426.15,+3.95%), Timken India Ltd. (Rs. 3137.50,+2.68%), Schaeffler India Ltd. (Rs. 4027.15,+2.56%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 266.25,+1.91%), Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 59.33,+1.38%),.



Metal index was at 35128.74 down by -407.97 points or by -1.15%. Jindal Stainless Ltd. (Rs. 756.00,-3.46%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 493.60,-2.62%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 234.10,-1.76%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 847.70,-1.62%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 182.95,-0.76%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4512 , shares advanced were 1911 while 2430 shares declined and 171 were unchanged.
