Sensex slips 491 pts; Metals shine; SMIDs fall

Indian benchmark indices were trading with negative bias on Friday weighed down by selling in index heavyweights including Hindustan Unilever Ltd, UltraTech Cement Ltd, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. among others.



At 14:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 84064.62 down by -491.78 points or by -0.58 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25752.5 down by -138.9 points or by -0.54 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 84707.44 and intraday low of 83957.15 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25944.15 and intraday low of 25718.2



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2027.45,+0.95%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1373.85,+0.76%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1694.55,+0.33%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 1277.45,+0.31%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1448.85,+0.06%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2513.00,-3.37%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11881.00,-2.16%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2181.40,-1.96%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1424.05,-1.96%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 992.30,-1.65%), among others.



Metal index was at 34262.97 up by 316.86 points or by 0.93%. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 823.10,+3.86%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 236.70,+3.70%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 496.70,+2.87%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 485.65,+0.73%), Jindal Stainless Ltd. (Rs. 802.95,+0.45%),.

Bankex index was at 64981.12 down by -616.81 points or by -0.94%. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2181.30,-1.97%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 991.90,-1.69%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1241.60,-1.41%), State Bank of India (Rs. 903.35,-0.89%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 753.75,-0.84%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4494 , shares advanced were 1715 while 2589 shares declined and 190 were unchanged.
