Mid-Session: HUL, HDFC Bank drags Sensex 200 pts, Nifty below 25,850

Indian benchmark indices ended Friday with a negative bias, weighed down by reports of the US considering a fresh probe against China over the 2020 trade deal. Rising oil prices amid US sanctions on Russia further dampened market sentiment.



At 12:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 84352.84 down by -203.56 points or by -0.24 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25851.9 down by -39.5 points or by -0.15 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 84707.44 and intraday low of 84201.96 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25944.15 and intraday low of 25783.75



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2029.35,+1.05%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1376.45,+0.95%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1457.10,+0.62%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 1280.95,+0.59%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1696.55,+0.45%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2512.50,-3.39%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2176.00,-2.20%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11953.10,-1.56%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1240.65,-1.49%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1431.70,-1.43%), among others.



Metal index was at 34311.03 up by 364.92 points or by 1.07%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 237.50,+4.05%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 819.80,+3.44%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 495.70,+2.66%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 488.55,+1.33%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 74.72,+0.71%),.



FMCG index was at 20623.64 down by -193.88 points or by -0.93%. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2512.70,-3.39%), Manorama Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1440.05,-3.27%), Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd. (Rs. 2217.40,-3.12%), Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd. (Rs. 139.30,-2.62%), Globus Spirits Ltd. (Rs. 1091.00,-2.24%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4346 , shares advanced were 1822 while 2319 shares declined and 205 were unchanged.
