Sensex, Nifty flat amid volatile start; HUL, Colgate drop 3%

Indian stock markets opened lower on Friday, weighed down by reports that the US is considering a fresh probe into China’s 2020 trade deal. Additionally, a rise in crude oil prices following new US sanctions against Russia further dampened investor sentiment.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 84567.89 up by 11.49 points or by 0.01 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25886.4 down by -5 points or by -0.02 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 84707.44 and intraday low of 84392.15 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25944.15 and intraday low of 25840.3



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 175.55,+0.83%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1374.25,+0.79%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2020.95,+0.63%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3642.25,+0.54%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1529.30,+0.34%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2506.15,-3.64%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2184.90,-1.80%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1441.45,-0.76%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3750.80,-0.56%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 1267.10,-0.50%), among others.



Metal index was at 34428.19 up by 482.08 points or by 1.42%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 237.00,+3.83%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 820.70,+3.56%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 493.80,+2.27%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 491.70,+1.98%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 130.95,+1.28%),.



_FMCG index was at 20614.28 down by -203.24 points or by -0.98%. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2506.15,-3.64%), Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd. (Rs. 2217.00,-3.14%), Gulshan Polyols Ltd. (Rs. 151.00,-2.01%), Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd. (Rs. 140.65,-1.68%), Dabur India Ltd. (Rs. 503.45,-1.50%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3454 , shares advanced were 1799 while 1463 shares declined and 192 were unchanged.
