Stock markets up on buying in IT counters after US Fed rate cut

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty were trading higher on Thursday propelled by buying in IT stocks after the US Federal Reserve cut its key interest rate by 25 basis points and signaled the possibility of two additional rate reduction this year.



At 10:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 83014.12 up by 320.41 points or by 0.39 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25423.6 up by 93.35 points or by 0.37 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 83141.21 and intraday low of 82920.76 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25448.95 and intraday low of 25393.8



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 333.20,+1.52%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1545.85,+1.50%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2605.15,+1.45%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 976.20,+1.01%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1494.00,+0.86%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 995.50,-1.09%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1928.00,-0.67%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2050.50,-0.30%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 170.95,-0.18%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2048.30,-0.10%), among others.



IT index was at 36169.2 up by 380.05 points or by 1.06%. Newgen Software Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 940.75,+6.38%), Sonata Software Ltd. (Rs. 410.60,+5.17%), Ramco Systems Ltd. (Rs. 548.80,+4.99%), L&T Technology Services Ltd. (Rs. 4487.35,+4.68%), Nucleus Software Exports Ltd. (Rs. 1079.00,+3.35%),.



CGS index was at 71225.73 down by -188.96 points or by -0.26%. Hitachi Energy India Ltd. (Rs. 19650.00,-2.06%), Grindwell Norton Ltd. (Rs. 1671.50,-1.54%), Bharat Dynamics Ltd. (Rs. 1605.00,-1.15%), Timken India Ltd. (Rs. 3024.55,-0.89%), CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 785.25,-0.83%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4032 , shares advanced were 2371 while 1450 shares declined and 211 were unchanged.
