Sensex tops 83,000; Nifty hits 25,420 as US Fed cuts rates by 25 bps

Indian benchmarks Sensex and Nifty advanced, with the Sensex reclaiming 83,000 and the Nifty touching 25,420, after the US Federal Reserve reduced its key rate by 25 basis points to 4–4.25 per cent.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 83070.98 up by 377.27 points or by 0.46 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25427.65 up by 97.4 points or by 0.38 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 83141.21 and intraday low of 82920.76 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25448.95 and intraday low of 25393.8



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1553.50,+2.00%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1643.80,+1.45%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1500.00,+1.27%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 976.35,+1.03%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2592.90,+0.98%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 995.15,-1.13%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 170.35,-0.53%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1932.55,-0.44%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2050.50,-0.30%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1124.55,-0.13%), among others.



IT index was at 36303.44 up by 514.29 points or by 1.44%. Newgen Software Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 937.60,+6.03%), Sonata Software Ltd. (Rs. 413.30,+5.87%), Ramco Systems Ltd. (Rs. 548.80,+4.99%), LTIMindtree Ltd. (Rs. 5585.10,+2.97%), L&T Technology Services Ltd. (Rs. 4412.80,+2.94%),.



Metal index was at 32760.59 down by -135.18 points or by -0.41%. Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 452.65,-1.43%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 742.00,-1.06%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 131.80,-0.64%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 453.40,-0.58%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 170.35,-0.53%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3602 , shares advanced were 2186 while 1228 shares declined and 188 were unchanged.
