Sensex drops 355 pts, Nifty at 25k; metal, bank stocks drag

Indian equities opened lower on Friday, ending a six-day winning streak. The cautious sentiment followed muted global cues as investors awaited US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s speech at the Jackson Hole economic symposium later in the day.



At 9:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 81645.56 down by -355.15 points or by -0.43 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25022.5 down by -61.25 points or by -0.24 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 81993.61 and intraday low of 81578.17 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25084.85 and intraday low of 25020.85



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3392.25,+0.56%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 899.25,+0.40%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3627.90,+0.31%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1472.65,-1.35%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2535.80,-1.21%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1507.85,-0.86%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1973.85,-0.82%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12761.00,-0.81%), among others.



CGS index was at 67400.78 up by 304.25 points or by 0.45%. Finolex Cables Ltd. (Rs. 871.65,+2.38%), Inox Wind Ltd. (Rs. 144.85,+1.44%), CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 685.55,+1.23%), Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 58.86,+1.19%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 378.00,+1.03%),.



Metal index was at 31414.68 down by -221.37 points or by -0.7%. JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1060.60,-1.08%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 1000.25,-0.98%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. (Rs. 1640.50,-0.77%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 70.85,-0.70%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 160.50,-0.62%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3293 , shares advanced were 1363 while 1773 shares declined and 157 were unchanged.
