Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are likely to open flat to slightly lower on August 22, following the GIFT Nifty, which was hovering around 25,092 earlier this morning. Investors await US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s speech at the central bank’s annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole on Friday.
On August 21, Indian indices extended their gaining streak for the sixth consecutive day, though the Nifty failed to hold 25,100 due to profit booking at higher levels.
The 30-share benchmark index ended at 82000.71 up by 142.87 points or by 0.17 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25083.75 up by 33.2 points or by 0.13 %.
On the global front, Asian markets were trading in green as investors are looking for guidance on US Fed's upcoming monetary policy moves. Last checked, South Korea's KOSPI index was up 1.06 per cent, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 0.13 per cent, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 0.33 per cent. However, Australia's ASX 200 index was down 0.11 per cent.
On Thursday, US markets settled lower ahead of Powell's speech. The S&P 500 fell 0.4 per cent, Nasdaq Composite was down 0.34 per cent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.34 per cent.
