Indian benchmark indices were trading around half a per cent on Tuesday. Among sectors, Information Technology, realty, pharma, capital goods up 0.5 percent each, while oil & gas index down nearly 1 percent.
Overseas, European stocks may open on a cautious note Tuesday as investors await key inflation readings for directional cues. In Asia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia and Taiwan are lower by between 0.2 and 1.0 percent each, while China and Malaysia are up 0.3 percent each.
On the corporate front, Power Grid Corp, Eicher Motors, Titan Company and Grasim Industries all were up around 1 percent. Lemon Tree Hotels added 1.3 percent as it signed a license agreement for two new hotel properties in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Oil prices dropped earlier in the day, weighed down by demand worries, especially in the face of uncertainty over the timing and pace of interest rate cuts in the U.S. and Europe.
At 12:54 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 73080.44 up by 290.31 points or by 0.4 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22161.1 up by 39.05 points or by 0.18 %.
The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 73089.57 and intraday low of 72660.13 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22170 and intraday low of 22085.65.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 750.10,-1.17%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 6608.00,-0.50%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1293.00,-0.37%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2860.00,-0.29%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 336.80,-0.22%), among others.
