Government extends duty-free raw sugar import deadline to December 31, 2026

The government has extended the deadline for duty-free imports of 1 million tonnes of raw sugar under the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) scheme to December 31, 2026, to boost domestic supplies ahead of the festive season.

According to a Finance Ministry notification, the import window has been extended from the earlier deadline of October 31, 2026. The government had initially permitted the import of 1 million tonnes of raw sugar on August 20.
