Mamata Machinery Limited has received the APR Design® for Recyclability Recognition from the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR), USA, for its recyclable high-barrier packaging film, RecTech. The recognition was granted on October 13, 2026, through APR's Critical Guidance Recognition pathway and remains valid until October 13, 2031.
An APR Review Committee assessed the RecTech laminate using the FPE-CG-01 test protocol and concluded that it met or exceeded the most stringent criteria under the recognition pathway. The tested laminate contained up to 4% ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH), 2% maleic anhydride-grafted (MAH) tie layers, 1.55% polyurethane (PU) ink and 2.33% PU laminating adhesive by weight.
Launched at Plastindia 2026 in February, RecTech is a recyclable mono-material film technology developed to provide high barrier protection and mechanical strength compared with conventional non-recyclable composite structures such as PET+PE.
The latest recognition adds to the film's independent validation across three major markets. In India, the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Bengaluru, certified its recyclability on May 22, 2026, while the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), Kolkata, validated its oxygen and water vapour barrier performance. In Europe, Institut cyclos-HTP GmbH issued a 100% recyclability certification for RecTech.
Significance for Sustainable Packaging
The APR recognition strengthens the technical evidence supporting RecTech's recyclability and potential commercial adoption in India, Europe and the United States. It also addresses the growing need among brand owners and packaging converters to meet Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements and sustainability targets without compromising product protection, shelf life or cost efficiency.
Commercial Expansion Plans
Mamata Machinery plans to work with brand owners and converters to evaluate RecTech for specific applications, packaging formats and filling processes, followed by production trials and commercial deployment.
The company will support the technology through its recyclable-compatible packaging ecosystem, which includes seven- and nine-layer co-extrusion blown film plants, pouch-making equipment, and horizontal and vertical form-fill-seal (HFFS and VFFS) packaging machines. These indigenously designed platforms are intended to enable film production, conversion and packaging within an integrated recyclable packaging framework.
