Retail sales of electric passenger vehicles nearly doubled year-on-year to 36,108 units in September 2026, compared with 18,559 units in the same month last year, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Associations (FADA).
Overall electric vehicle (EV) retail sales surged 74% year-on-year to 3,33,364 units in September, compared with 1,91,497 units in September 2025.
FADA attributed the strong growth to festive-season demand, improving running-cost economics, a wider range of EV models and continued policy support through the PM E-DRIVE scheme and state-level incentives.
The industry body said these factors are increasingly driving EV adoption, with electric vehicles moving from being an alternative purchase option to a mainstream consideration for consumers.
