Post-Session: Sensex, Nifty close flat after US Fed rate hike

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty closed nearly flat on Thursday, as investors remained cautious following the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate hike and indications of further monetary tightening.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 74314.59 down by -21.86 points or by -0.03 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23270.6 up by 53 points or by 0.23 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 74677.56 and intraday low of 74163.95 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23363.55 and intraday low of 23193.65



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 188.00,+2.82%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 395.60,+2.38%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4854.00,+2.32%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 323.90,+2.24%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12389.95,+1.64%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 713.00,-1.30%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4859.00,-1.14%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1345.00,-1.03%), State Bank of India (Rs. 984.50,-0.67%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1827.50,-0.52%), among others.



CGS index was at 75680.66 up by 1452.26 points or by 1.96%. HBL Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 756.65,+7.40%), AIA Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 3984.05,+5.10%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 428.00,+4.39%), Apar Industries Ltd. (Rs. 17750.65,+3.99%), Kaynes Technology India Ltd. (Rs. 3519.00,+3.90%),.



Bankex index was at 63330.49 down by -318.11 points or by -0.5%. Federal Bank Ltd. (Rs. 334.00,-2.34%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 713.00,-1.30%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1345.00,-1.03%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 23.15,-0.98%), Bank of Baroda (Rs. 232.40,-0.90%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4770 , shares advanced were 2788 while 1768 shares declined and 214 were unchanged.
