Balu Forge Industries bags multi-month order for 155mm ERFB Shells

Balu Forge Industries Ltd (BFIL) has announced the successful commercialisation of its 155mm Extended Range Full Bore (ERFB) Base Bleed (BB) and Boat Tail (BT) ammunition variants, along with the receipt of its first purchase order from an Indian ammunition company.

The initial order covers a pilot supply of 10,000 units, following which regular monthly supplies will begin in mutually agreed quantities. The development marks a significant milestone for BFIL as it expands its presence in the defence manufacturing sector and strengthens its capabilities in advanced artillery ammunition.

The company said the successful execution of the ERFB BB and BT shells demonstrates its precision forging and machining capabilities, particularly in manufacturing components designed to meet the demanding requirements of extended-range ammunition.

BFIL is also expanding its defence product portfolio, having recently secured NATO certification and commenced commercial production of standard 152mm and 155mm M107 projectiles in a ready-to-fill configuration. These products are manufactured at the company’s automated facility in Belgaum.

The company said it plans to build on this momentum by expanding into advanced long-range ammunition, multi-alloy forgings and its energetics business. The strategy is aimed at increasing its role across the defence supply chain and moving towards higher-value, integrated manufacturing capabilities for domestic and international markets.
