India's toy exports have increased by 89.1%, while toy imports have declined by 37.5%, reflecting the strong growth of domestic manufacturing and the country's emergence as a net exporter of toys.
The government attributed the sector's growth to a series of policy measures aimed at improving quality, promoting local manufacturing, and boosting exports. These include the implementation of the National Action Plan for Toys (NAPT), higher import duties on toys, the Quality Control Order (QCO) for toys, support for toy clusters, and incentives under the Startup India and RoDTEP schemes.
According to a BIS survey conducted in 2025, 95% of toy samples met prescribed quality standards, a significant improvement from 33% in 2019. BIS has also issued more than 1,800 licenses to domestic toy manufacturers and over 50 licenses to foreign manufacturers.
India's toy exports are now reaching key global markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany. The industry has also benefited from preferential market access under trade agreements with countries such as the UAE, Australia, EFTA nations, Oman, New Zealand, and the UK.
Separately, the 17th Toy Biz International B2B Exhibition, held in New Delhi from July 4-7, 2026, brought together 400 Indian toy brands, 100 international buyers from 40 countries, and around 30,000 business visitors, providing a platform to promote Indian toys and expand domestic and export opportunities.
