Railways urges passengers to stay vigilant amid enhanced security measures

Indian Railways has urged passengers to remain alert and report any suspicious activity during train journeys or at railway stations as part of efforts to strengthen security across the rail network.

The appeal came after a high-level security review meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi. Ministers of State for Railways V. Somanna and Ravneet Singh Bittu, along with senior Railway Board officials, also attended the meeting.

During the review, Railways said recent preliminary investigations into multiple incidents, including some fire-related cases, indicated the possible involvement of anti-social elements. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is actively probing these incidents, and officials noted that timely intervention in several cases helped prevent major mishaps.

Indian Railways said it is increasingly deploying advanced technologies such as AI-based surveillance systems, drones, CCTV networks, and enhanced cyber security tools to improve passenger safety and monitor railway premises more effectively.

The discussions also focused on improving intelligence gathering at the field level, strengthening coordination between the RPF and Government Railway Police, expanding CCTV coverage, and enhancing operational security systems across zones.

Passengers have been advised to immediately report any suspicious person or activity on railway premises through the railway helpline number 139.
