The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched a pilot ‘Awareness Program on Digital Payments’ as part of the sixth edition of Digital Payments Awareness Week (DPAW) being observed from March 9–13, 2026.
The program was launched by Sanjay Malhotra, who emphasised the importance of maintaining trust and security in digital payments while highlighting the central bank’s continued focus on customer awareness and protection.
The pilot initiative will be conducted in Maharashtra in partnership with CSC e-Governance Services India Limited. It aims to reach around 10 lakh participants in rural and semi-urban areas through in-person awareness sessions conducted by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs).
During the event, RBI also launched a multi-media awareness campaign titled “Thoda Dhyan Se”, encouraging users to remain alert and cautious while making digital payments and conducting online transactions.
Following the launch, the Governor also interacted with Managing Directors and Chief Executive Officers of select Payment Systems Operators (PSOs) to discuss issues related to digital payments and the strengthening of the ecosystem.
The event was also attended by RBI Deputy Governors T. Rabi Sankar, Poonam Gupta and S. C. Murmu, along with other senior officials of the central bank.
