Govt withdraws order requiring pre-installation of Sanchar Saathi app on smartphones

The government has withdrawn its directive that required smartphone manufacturers to pre-install the Sanchar Saathi cyber security app on new devices.

According to the Department of Telecom, the decision comes after the app saw a tenfold surge in voluntary downloads within a single day. The department said the mandate was initially aimed at boosting adoption and making the app accessible to less-aware users, but the rapid rise in voluntary uptake made the requirement unnecessary.
