Govt extends tenure of 16th Finance Commission till November 30

The government has extended the tenure of the 16th Finance Commission by one month, now ending on November 30.

Constituted on December 31, 2023, the Commission is chaired by former Niti Aayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya, and its report was originally due by October 31, 2025.

The Commission’s primary mandate is to recommend the distribution of taxes between the Centre and states for a five-year period starting April 1, 2026.
