The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been driving the growth and development of India’s food processing sector through various initiatives. These include two Central Sector Schemes — Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY) and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) — along with the centrally sponsored PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme. These schemes, which are demand-driven and implemented nationwide, provide financial, technical, and business support for establishing and upgrading food processing enterprises.
Under the PMFME scheme, individual micro enterprises are eligible for a credit-linked capital subsidy of 35% of the project cost, up to a maximum of ?10 lakh per unit. As of June 30, 2025, 1,44,517 micro food processing enterprises have been approved for assistance under the scheme. Additionally, under its capacity-building component, MoFPI has supported training programs for 1,16,666 beneficiaries, including trainers, district resource persons, and entrepreneurs, to enhance entrepreneurship development and product-specific skills for the food processing industry.
The projects approved under PMKSY and PLISFPI also cover enterprises in the MSME sector, serving as a catalyst for their growth. In Bihar alone, MoFPI has approved 13 projects under PMKSY, 7 proposals under PLISFPI, and 25,349 proposals under PMFME up to June 30, 2025.
