Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty hints a positive start; Asia mixed

Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are expected to open on a positive note today, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 25,565 earlier this morning.

Market sentiment is likely to be influenced by a combination of domestic and global factors, including India’s final Services PMI data for June, the US trade balance for May, weekly US jobless claims data, and US President Donald Trump’s recent tariff agreement with Vietnam. Mixed global cues, ongoing primary market activity, and institutional investment trends will also guide investor sentiment through the session.

In the previous session on July 2, domestic markets closed lower after a volatile day, weighed down by selling pressure in realty and financial stocks.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 83409.69 down by -287.6 points or by -0.34 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25453.4 down by -88.4 points or by -0.35 %.

On the global front, Asian shares edged up in the leadup to US jobs data, after stocks hit another record following Donald Trump’s announcement of a trade deal with Vietnam.

Nikkei was flat with a positive bias after dipping initially, and the Topix index was down 0.12 per cent. Kospi gained 0.85 per cent, while ASX 200 slipped 0.42 per cent.

Overnight in the US, major indexes ended mixed. The S&P 500 hit a fresh intraday record and closed at a new all-time high. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 0.94 per cent to finish at a record 20,393.13. However, the Dow slipped 10.52 points, or 0.02 per cent, to close at 44,484.42.
