Sensex, Nifty trade choppy; FMCG, Realty stocks weigh

Equity markets witnessed a lackluster session on Tuesday, oscillating between gains and losses, as benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex stepped into the traditionally strong month.



At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 83684.88 up by 78.42 points or by 0.09 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25539.25 up by 22.2 points or by 0.09 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 83874.29 and intraday low of 83572.51 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25593.4 and intraday low of 25501.8



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1528.50,+1.86%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 883.05,+1.29%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2361.10,+0.84%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12172.05,+0.83%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2014.20,+0.67%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1172.00,-2.25%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2411.50,-2.19%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3416.25,-1.29%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 260.90,-1.19%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1669.40,-1.06%), among others.

Metal index was at 31790.19 up by 94.24 points or by 0.3%. Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 468.60,+1.68%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 952.40,+1.17%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1029.05,+0.95%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 133.15,+0.91%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. (Rs. 1749.00,+0.68%),.



FMCG index was at 20084.45 down by -156.87 points or by -0.77%. Prataap Snacks Ltd. (Rs. 1025.70,-2.93%), Britannia Industries Ltd. (Rs. 5723.05,-2.20%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2411.50,-2.19%), Honasa Consumer Ltd. (Rs. 304.00,-2.16%), Radico Khaitan Ltd. (Rs. 2567.00,-1.99%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4300 , shares advanced were 1977 while 2137 shares declined and 186 were unchanged.
